Spanish taxes for residents
Frequently asked questions
Many foreigners reside in Spain for work, family, and/or personal reasons. Spain is one of the world’s favorite destinations.
A foreigner, as a worker in Spain, has certain tax obligations and, in general, any foreigner legally residing in Spain is obliged to attribute and pay taxes in Spain. At JDV Asesores we are specialists in tax returns for foreigners.
The requirements foreseen in the Law for a foreigner to be obliged to pay taxes and file a tax return in Spain are as follows:
- Stay in Spain for more than 183 days in the calendar year (the equivalent of 6 months). To determine this period of stay, sporadic absences will be calculated.
- The main economic activity is located directly or indirectly in Spain. Unless otherwise approved.
Those persons, natural or legal, who own or have any real estate property in Spain (the Form 720).
We take into account, among others, the following aspects:
• Pensions from other countries
• Dividends from other countries
• Income for work carried out abroad
• Worldwide income and its imputation
• Deductions for international double taxation
• Agreements to avoid double taxation
• Exempt income with progression
